What the eGazette is

The eGazette is the digital edition of the Government Gazette, hosted by the Government Printing Works. Each issue contains the official record of legal notices, government notices, board notices, regulations, proclamations and tenders. The legal notices section is where statutory adverts under various Acts are published every Friday.

What you can publish through the eGazette South Africa

The eGazette carries Form J193 Notices to Creditors, Form J187 Liquidation and Distribution Account notices, business rescue notices, sequestration and liquidation notices, lost share certificate notices, mining notices and curatorship notices. Each notice type has its own statutory form, content requirement and publication period.

How notices reach the eGazette

The Government Printing Works receives copy through accredited submitters, applies the prescribed format and assigns a Government Notice number and page reference in the Friday edition. Submission deadlines, copy formatting and proof handling are tightly controlledn and a single mistake costs a full week.

eGazette publication evidence

Once a notice is published, the Government Notice number, page reference, edition number and publication date form your evidence. This is what the Master of the High Court, the regulator or the court will look at when you produce proof of publication. Without the eGazette reference, the notice has no evidentiary value.

Why most notices need a paired online newspaper

Several Acts require publication in the Government Gazette and in a newspaper circulating in a defined area. The eGazette satisfies the Gazette leg. The newspaper requirement is satisfied by an online newspaper, such as Nuusflits, which has national reach across all nine provinces and provides a separate proof of publication for the audit file.

Common eGazette South Africa errors

Three errors recur. Copy submitted without the prescribed form headings is returned. Copy submitted after the Friday cut-off lapses to the next edition. Copy without paired newspaper publication may meet the Gazette leg but fails the underlying statute. A pre-submission review prevents all three.
