Government Gazette Deadline 2026: Submission Dates for Estate Notices and Legal Notices

Attorneys, executors and estate administrators who need to publish deceased estate notices or other legal notices in the Government Gazette must work according to strict weekly Government Gazette deadlines.

Missing a Gazette deadline can delay the publication date by a full week, which may also delay the administration of an estate, the inspection period for a Liquidation and Distribution Account, or other statutory notice requirements.

Below is the current Government Gazette deadline schedule for upcoming 2026 issues.

Why Gazette deadlines matter

Government Gazette deadlines are especially important where legal notices must be published within a specific statutory process.

For deceased estates, this often includes:

  • Section 29 notices to creditors, published on the J193 form
  • Section 35(5) notices for Liquidation and Distribution Accounts lying open for inspection, published on the J187 form
  • Notices that must appear in both the Government Gazette and a newspaper or approved online publication
  • Notices where the executor or estate administrator needs a verified publication record for the Master of the High Court

Because the Government Gazette is published on set issue dates, late submission usually means the notice moves to the next available issue.

Plan ahead for public holidays and December deadlines

Some 2026 Gazette deadlines fall on a Thursday or Wednesday instead of a Friday. This is usually because of public holidays, office closures or year-end publication arrangements.

The December deadlines are especially important:

  • Thursday, 10 December 2026 for the issue of Friday, 18 December 2026
  • Thursday, 17 December 2026 for the issue of Thursday, 24 December 2026
  • Wednesday, 23 December 2026 for the issue of Thursday, 31 December 2026

Estate administrators should avoid leaving December estate notices to the last minute, as year-end deadlines can affect publication timing and the issuing of proof or verified publication records.
